Old Nigerian gospel songs often remain alive in memory after their original albums become difficult to find. A remembered chorus, a cassette label or a family story can provide the first clue.
Write down the words you remember
Record the language, repeated phrase and any name spoken in the recording. Even an incomplete line can help when the spelling is checked with a fluent speaker.
Look for physical evidence
Cassette covers, vinyl labels, CD booklets and church programme notes may contain the minister’s name, album title, label and release period.
Search by relationships
Choir name, church, producer, featured voice and region can be as useful as the song title.
Use legal listening sources
An old recording may still be protected by copyright. Link to authorised uploads or contact the rights holder rather than creating a new copy without permission.
